Anthony Jigalin - Down And Out In Heavenly Bills

Opening this Friday night is a solo exhibition by local stalwart Anthony Jigalin titled Down And Out In Heavenly Bills. This exhibition will showcase Anthony's familiar colour palette and scathing social commentary. One not to be missed.

Anthony describes his process as such...

"anthony jigalin (°1974, melbourne, australia) makes paintings, drawings, sculptures and mixed media artworks. facebook and instagram photos are appropriated and childhood instances re imagined so the story remains the same but original characters replaced with new ones.
paint, brushes, turps and linseed oil. etc purchased. most of the other materials are fished from the sea of mattress, fridge, washer dryer bins, thrift stores, council kerbside collections and seconds shoppes.
anthony applies specific limits on pallette, music, food, alcohol, cigarettes and choosing mainly formal haphazard solutions, his work references orthodox icons and simple kindergarten color theory as well as the avant-garde or the pre-neo-post-punk-modern and left-wing right handbrake democratic movement as a form of resistance against the logic of the capitalist market system to unashamedly kick against the pricks. loosely based on subjective side angle associations and formal parallels,
his work never shows his complete inner structure hindered by historical reality. via retakes and variations, he tries to increase the chaos dynamic gently. anthony currently lives and works at his brisbane nano-studio."
